I have Internet Explorer 6 installed on my computer, and apparently there are some compatibility issues with the chat on Facebook, which says using IE 7 would be better. So I downloaded IE 7 for Windows XP, but when I tried to install it, I got this error message right at the end of the installation: "This installation does not support your operating system's current Service Pack version." I have a general idea of what a service pack is, but I don't know how to tell which one I have on my computer or which one I need to download and install to be compatible with IE 7. Can anyone please help?

IE 7 requires XP Service Pack 2. You must have SP1 or even no service pack installed, to get that error message. To check, right-click on my computer and select properties. Look at the General tab (usually the one that is showing) and see what is there next to and just below, "Windows XP." At this point I would strongly urge you to install SP3 sooner rather than later. This does not sound like a computer that has been updated in a while--no offense, but not updating it is asking for trouble with viruses and what not. EDIT: I forgot that in order to install SP3, you will need to install SP1 or SP2 first. Sorry its rather complicated. Here is a link to install SP2. After that, reboot and then install sp3. BOth of these are huge downloads. MS offers them via CD, if you are not on a broadband connection. THIS LINK IS GOOD FOR BOTH SP2 and SP3: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389 If you do decide to wait for the CD--by all means make sure you have up to date antivirus and antispyware programs running on your computer---there are worms and other security problems that can easily infect computers that do not yet have SP2 on them. Here is a link to one good program that offers antivirus and antispyware protection, even if you don't have SP2 installed yet--I have it on my laptop and it works quite well--Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

You could always get Firefox -- it's better and it's free! http://mozilla.com
