In regards to the pharisees blindness two portions of scripture comes to mind the first being this segment from romans chapter one
21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused.

In the gospels the Pharisees, most of them ,but not all, did not worship God, but worshipped, money, power, influence, and their own selves. These were idols in their lives and idolatry blinds men to the truth of God. Their religion was nothing more then a front to gain money power and influence their true gods.

22 Claiming to be wise, they became utter fools instead.
This statement is referring to pride based on human knowledge(education)
This also refered to in this verse from 1 Corithians

1 Corinthians 8:1
[ Food Sacrificed to Idols ] Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up

Information without divine revelation makes one proud, and pride clouds the mind, and confuses human reasoning. The proud are never seeking to grow in wisdom and understanding, because they already think they know. Pride according to human knowledge leads to a cement mind set, that is well mixed and permanently fixed.

23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people, or birds and animals and snakes.

The principle here in verse 23 that applies to the Pharisees is this that if one does not worship the one true living God you will worship somthing else and anything worship in place of God does not bring light to the mind, but darkness.

The thing that caused them to be blind was a willing rejection of the testimony of the law and the prophets, which declared that man was unable to meet God's standards for life, and needed Mesiah to come and saved them from their sin. The Pharisees actually thought that their religious rituals made them okay with God. The words and life of Christ exposed their sin, and they were not willing to accept that because of their pride based on human knowledge, without the knowledge that comes from being in itimate relationship with God though grace and mercy. They became blind becuase the pride of their hearts prevented them from recieving the truth that God giving them for the purpose of setting them free.
God inadvertantly blinded then by giving them a message that they were to proud to receive. I hope this response helps you to understand
God bless you
Your brother in Christ

I don't know who or what you are responding to. But in response to the topic of the blindness of the pharisees, I would refer to John 5:39-40.

You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life.

and John 17:3.

And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.

and John 3:19-21.

And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.

The pharisees would not come to Jesus, come into the light, be truthful. They would not be honest. Eternal life is knowing Jesus and being known by Him. This is what the pharisees would not do.

Sure it plays out in terms of politics and power and position just as it does in the lives of those in the church today. We have to be careful that we don't define what a pharisee is so that it excludes us. I think that was Jesus' point in speaking to them over and over and over again. He didn't want us to miss the message.

If we aren't truthful, honest about us, our sin, we are in darkness as well. And that makes us no different than the pharisees.
