What is the best free website to track what your stocks are
doing and to follow the market.I am new at doing this but just
need to watch the various stocks that I do have money in and
to make sure I gain more than I loose which is hard these days.

Yahoo Finance is free to use. Just put in the stocks symbol or use the symbol lookup tool at the top of the page. This will give you the stock price on a 20 minute delay that will show up on the right side of the Yahoo Finance page everytime you bring it up. The only down side that every few months you have to put in the symbols again to keep the prices on the side of the page.

What brokerage do you use? Most of them have online access to your account and give you positions and other tools for tracking your stocks.

Yahoo finance is definitely my favorite free site. I use several other sites to get information, but for snapshots of stocks, the yahoo site is the most comprehensive free site I've found.
If you will start on this page below and make an id for yourself, you can create a portfolio of stocks to watch, and from that page, you can check all sorts of things.

For industry research, I especially like this function:

A few other free sites that have some good stuff, but I find myself using yahoo, because it has so much function:
nasdaq.com
nyse.com
investopedia.com
But hey, I'm curious if there are other free sites that are better.

Chalk one up for My Yahoo->Quotes->Finances to track the market in a general way. My broker, Edward Jones, has a site tailored to my portfolio.
