Today, a message was sent to all employees by the CEO. The turmoil in the financial markets has led my company's leadership to take a few unwelcome measures: - there will be no annual raise in early 2009 - bonuses will be lower - staff reductions will take place I cannot help but feel discouraged because of how bad the job market is right now, and also because the CEO's message said that the option of "redundancy" will be given, i.e, employees who feel they are redundant can volunteer so that they can be "voluntarily laid off" and be given packages. But even if an employee doesn't go to HR and offer himself as a redundant employee, the senior managers may choose certain employees for compulsory redundancy - which means they will be probably laid off. And any/all employees who are considered "redundant" will be notified no later than Friday, October 10. So this means that any and all employees will have to come to work every day until next Friday with the possibility that HR will call them in to notify them their job may be terminated (if not immediately, eventually). I have been looking for a job on and off and am further discouraged by the fact that I got in touch with a headhunter 2 weeks ago but didn't hear back and am now concerned the possibility he knew of will not be available. I'm extremely concerned. I have a mortgage and car payments to make every month, and losing my job would be a terrible blow. Please pray to God to help me out here. I'm writing in a very emotional state, hence my sad tone, but I'm writing exactly what I feel.

O Father, we lift RichLP up to You. Help him to retain his job. If this is not within Your will, encourage him. We know that You are still in control, and the most importen thing is our relationship with You. The things of this earth will pass away, but Your love and kindness will never pass away. Thank You Lord that You love us so. We look to You for help and peace for RichLP and for each of us. In Jesus name. Amen

Rich, if it helps put things in perspective, I haven't had a raise since 2006 - and that was after taking a 33% pay cut following a lay-off from a company I worked at for over 24 years.

These are signs of the times we live in. Father walk with RichLP in this valley. Help him to be strong in spirit, and give him courage to face the challenges be they finding a new job, or working in an uncertain environment. Help him to be a beacon of light and strength to other scared employees. Protect him and guide him Father, you are our ultimate provider, we worship you and thank you for how much you love us. In Jesus Name Amen

sparklingsnow, barbi, tbrobinson, thanks so much. Jimbofletch: I hear ya. But I'm only 34 and I should be at an ascendant point in my career. I can't afford a huge roadblock/gap in my career path right now. I'm sure you know what this means. Of course, if management or circumstances simply choose to fire me, I can do nothing but leave and try to find something new (or hopefully, find something new before I am forced to leave this position). Yes indeed - it's such a tough market out there... such a tough time we are now in.

Rich, how very frustrating. I will be praying about the situation. Last night our pastor went off on a little tangent about feeling frustrated. It boiled down to we just need to trust God, that He has our best interests in mind. We may not always get what we want, but He has our needs covered. Don't know if that will help you feel encouraged, but I do know when I had to walk out of my life four years ago (including from an excellent, well-paying job) into ... well, nothing ... it was extremely difficult. God made sure all my needs were met. I admit I fought some things ( ... but God I want, I was so comfortable). Even though I have much less than I used to have, I am much happier. I was forced into a position where I had no options but to make major changes in every area of my life. And while it was painful, I am a much happier person now. God uses circumstances of all kinds to bring us closer to Him.

Lord, please look down upon RichLP at this time. Be with him and give him comfort as he deals with the uncertainty in his job. Remove from him any spirit of fear or anxiety regarding this situation and replace it with a spirit of calm. Help him to focus on each day as it comes and focus on his job and family in the present, rather than worry about tomorrow. For as your Son told us "(Therefore) Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matthew 6:34). Lord, help RichLP and all of his fellow employees. If it is your will, help them to weather this storm of financial and employment uncertainty. Bless them all with job security and financial certainty, even in these troubled times. Bless them, and help to provide for all of them so that their needs might be met, and so that they do not fall into despair. Comfort them and their families so that they can better endure the stresses that are facing them with their jobs. Most of all, Lord, remind them all that you are our shelter in the storm. Remind them that they can always turn to you when they are made weary these harsh times, and that you will provide them rest. RichLP and his co-workers be drawn closer to you as a result of these hardships, and may they in return glorify your name to others who struggle as they currently are. I pray that all of this is in line with your perfect will in the name of our Beloved Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for us upon the cross so that all sins might be forgiven. Amen.

Hey all. I just wanted to tell you that I am still att his job. But that does not guarantee anything - because the date which the CEO's email said would be the date when (or up until) employees chosen for redundancy and then, talks w/ senior managers on this (in other words, to be told the job was very likely going to be liminated) is tomorrow. Nothing has happened so far. No one in my office has been let go as of now. Tomorrow is a half-day for my company. I will be in. And frankly, I am quite worried - I am already in the process of looking into my budget and spending habits to save money. And this budgetary changes will happen regardless of whether or not I am told I will be let go. But right now I'm very concerned... that chest pain from the day I opened this thread is with me again. Honestly, part of me tells me I won't lose my job. I joined this job market nearly 10 years ago and by God's grace I was not unemployed once from the day I first joined this job market, even during the crisis in job and financial markets after 9/11. But it could happen. So please pray for me. And also, I finally met the headhunter, and he liked my resume, but he said it's a tough market, so I would need patience for now.

Oh I am so sorry you are going through this..I am praying for you. I am glad that you still do have your job right now. See if you can cut down on things like the phone bill, cable bill, don't eat out, stuff like that. I did a few adjustments and it will eventually add up to a good amount of savings.... You are in my prayers! kc

Dear God, Be with RichLP tomorrow, because it's going to be a sad day no matter whether he keeps his job or not as he'll see friends leaving. Help him to find help to locate another job if it is needed, someone that can communicate. In Jesus' name, Amen quote:

Thanks to everybody who prayed. This is what happened. From 1030AM to 1130AM, a few employees were seen going into the office administrator's office. I (and I'm sure a lot of others) became tense. 4 employees were terminated. One of them was liked a lot by everybody (not that the 3 others weren't). My boss in particular, I could tell, was quite miffed that he was let go. So for now, I was spared... I still have my job. But I'm going to look more aggressively for a new one. I was sad, tense, upset, frustrated, and exhausted (emotionally and mentally) today at work. Let's just say I'm glad it's Friday. Thanks again to all for all your prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how you feel. I use to work for a commercial real estate investment firm in San Francisco and we use to get some pretty hefty year-end bonuses, as well as nice pay increases. I was speaking with my old boss a couple of months ago and she said that there have been MANY changes. No bonus this year and some hope to keep their jobs since sells are WAY down of course. Kidney failure and advanced stage of lupus forced me to take disability, which I've been on for about 2 years now. I just contiue to pray for everyone who's in that situation about their job. Remember, the Lord doesn't put too much on us that we cannot bear. He will make a way! God Bless.
