If you are a babysitter, please let me know how much you charge. Please include how much experience you have and the general region of the country you live in, for example, Northwest, Southwest, Northern East coast, etc. Do not give specific information about where you live. The reason I am asking this is that I have a fourteen year old daughter. She has experience babysitting, but has not charged much since she wasn't experienced. Now she has a lot of experience over the last year and a half and I think she ought to charge the going rate. Only problem is that I don't know what the going rate is! Hopefully you can help us with that. We live in Western Washington, which is a fairly expensive place to live compared to say upstate New York. Thanks so much for your input. blessings, Cynthia

It all depends on what exactly I'm doing. If I'm just babysitting for an evening, I'll charge about 5 dollars. But if it's more of a regular thing (9-5 in the summer, or after school), it's more like 7-10 dollars. But there are many factors to be considered... Like does she want to charge more if there are a lot of kids? Or if it is an evening job, does she want to charge more after a certain time? I live in Southern Ontario, which (if you are not familiar with the area) is doing quite well economically at this point, if that makes any difference to you.

Hi Cynthia, For the most part I don't set a fee, I just take whatever they give. If I had to charge something, I would probably be around $5/hour. In my experience, though, it's not what you charge, it's what the person thinks you deserve. Most people that I've babysat for have a general idea of what they think the "going rate" is, but it varies from person to person. Once again, it normally averages about $5/hour. I hope this helps and I wish you and your daughter the best of luck, in whatever you do. Peace and Blessings eternally, FuturePriest

Huh. Well that that makes pretty good sense. Thanks for that.
