ORIGINAL: towgirl Today is the last day I will ever get to sit down... watch this Awww, what a cutie! Nicole, I'm glad that things seem to be moving in the right direction. Well, it appears as though my neighbors have legal custody of their granddaughter (child of their daughter). We don't talk hardly very much, but I did bring over banana bread when they had a sign announcing the birth of the baby and I met the mother. The little baby is now 9 months, so maybe we'll get together and let the kids play. They also lost their son (in his early 20's) just a few weeks ago, so maybe some company will help.

The basic problem was that they applied the same data used in studies on adults to children in regards to mixed medications(Psudophedrine+Expectorant, etc...) and have since found that it doesn't quite work that way.

Hmmm...they have been effective with MY kids. Maybe it depends on whether it is an allergy thing or a virus? I just don't buy that they all of a sudden figured out they "don't work", when we've obviously seen that they do in my house, or we wouldn't use them. I'm not one to medicate at the drop of a hat, but I know when it will help my kids and when it won't. They usually only get meds at night time, if then, so that we can all sleep.

I've given Gabby some PediaCare drops at night when she was so congested she couldn't sleep, unfortunately the Sudofed makes her WIDE awake which is partly why we went looking for something else to use. The pharmacist Micah works with also talked to him at length about the science side of things and basically told him to try something homeopathic and not risk it with the meds. Allergy meds like Benedryl are still "safe", although they were never marketed for kids under the age of two.

I'm a bit excited. I just put Nathan down without nursing. He'd nursed earlier this morning, so he's not weaning or anything. But he was tired, and I carried him upstairs, kissed him and said it was time for "night night". I was shocked how fast he fell asleep. In the past I've nursed him, and put him down awake, but this is kinda new. He's been grumpy all morning, so I hope he feels better after his nap. The trick for him seemed to be to leave the room immediately, as my trying to stay and comfort or pat his back only encourages him to stay awake.

Yeah, I had to buy some children's benedryl for Jimmy when he had that amoxicillin rash. The pharmacist gave me the proper dosage though. I actually buy children's ibuprofen for him too and the phgarmacist gives me the amount to give him. I used Little Coughs brand on Timmy when he had a cold with a cough, and it worked great. It was Dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), acetominiphen (pain reliever), and an expectorant. We only used it on him at night so his coughing wouldn't wake him up. The coughing in the daytime never seemed to big him too much. I think another one of the problems the infant cold medicine companies had was parents not reading the plain-as-day label on the back and seeing that there was already acetaminophen in it, and they were giving the babies tylenol AND the cold medicine together.

Hunter is the same way, he goes down much faster or settles himself if I am not in the room. A few times I tried the comfort him without pick him up out of the crib and it makes him more mad. I am glad he was able to go down without nursing, I know that is a huge step.

Josie's the same way. She's much better off if I plop her in bed and leave the room. A lot of times it works, but sometimes it doesn't. Bedtime has been difficult for the last few weeks but seems to be getting better...here's hoping anyway!!

Luke's starting to use two word sentances!!!! I'm so excited!!!! Today, he told his brother "Da-sha (his version of Marshall), me in" when he went back in the house. And he was laying on the floor at nursery tonight playing with one of his buddies and told me "Me down!" YEAH!!!! His second birthday is on Sunday. I can't believe how the time has flown! --Kat

Kat, that's so exciting! I can't wait for the talking days! Thought I would share, it's pretty funny, because I didn't think my mom was like this. My mom was over to visit this week, and Chase always gets up for the day around 6:30-7:00 (no matter how many times he was up in the night) and then he goes for a nap after breakfast, around 9:00am, and he usually sleeps for 2 hours or more. Then, after lunch, he gets tired, but usually only sleeps for 1/2 hour or less. Well, when my mom was here the other day, she told me that ALL babies have a short nap in the morning, and a long nap in the afternoon, and that they always drop the morning nap first. I just laughed inside and told her that not all babies are the same. Then she said "you'll see when he starts sleeping better at night, he won't sleep so long in the morning!" My mom is generally pretty open minded and go-with-the-flow, so this kinda made me laugh. Now that Chase has learned to crawl, he must learn something new , so now he's pulling up on almost everything...this is scary!!

I know with Hunter he did drop down to one nap a day when he started sleeping through the night. But, I know how moms can be. My mom has tried telling me "its this way" and I just let it go in one ear and out the other. Nope, no cheddar cheese smells here. Though I do miss the days when he was only on breast milk and his dirty diapers smelled like buttery popcorn...call me crazy, but they did. Such a sweeter smell than what we deal with now...ick!

Nicole, the look on Mary's face in the second picture is pretty funny. Ugh, I'm having a hard time letting go. Nathan has not been sleeping well, and Greg's trying to take care of him now and get him back to sleep. We have some different ideas about caring for Nathan, and Greg just wants me to trust him to care for his son, and not rush in to take over. I can let it go for a little longer...

Thanks. There are some cases when I definitely need to step in, because what Greg was doing was simply not good for Nathan's health. Other times... I just need to bite my tongue when Greg is caring for Nathan, and I just want to say "but that's not how I do it!".

Ruth, I understand how you feel. I faced that quite a bit when and Zach/Rae were babies/toddlers. Now that we have Mary and we have adjusted together as parents, thing have changed a little bit. Hang in there!

My hubby is dad of the year with Timmy who is almost a little boy and not so much a baby.
