I know it's a little violent, but I LOVE watching Ultimate Fighting Championship on Spike TV. I even set alarms on my phone whenever it's going to be on television. I'm anxiously waiting for the big rematch on PPV December 30th between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz... it's going to be AWESOME!!

Most people I chat with on here and other sites have never even heard of UFC...

Am I the only fan out there????

There are a few UFC fans on CW

I enjoy watching MMA (Pride FC and K-1 are not on American TV as much as UFC); did you see George St Pierre TKO Matt Hughes for the belt?

I am especially amped about the fights coming up this month: Drew Fickett vs Karo Parysian, Joe Riggs vs Diego Sanchez (Dec 13th), Michael "the Count" Bisping vs Eric Schafer (fighting on December 30th), Chris Leben vs Jason McDonald.

Tito has an incredible workout regimen; I was impressed with the way he coached on TUF 3.

Is Matt Hamill going to fight soon?

I am definitely a UFC fan. I don't get to watch it as much as I would like, but I do watch it when I can.

I am not a big Ortiz fan. Personally I think Liddell will knock him out before the 3rd round.

I was bummed Matt Hughes lost, but from what I heard St. Pierre fought a great fight. Hopefully Hughes will look better if they have a rematch.

Anyone see the Franklin/Silva fight? Silva completely dominated Franklin. I never expected that to happen. If there is a rematch I hope Franklin comes in with a different game plan.

Yeah, I saw it. I'm a huge GSP fan. I was a little surprised at how easily he defeated Matt Hughes. Like everyone else I was expecting an all out war, but I was way excited that he won! Can't wait to see the inevitable 3rd fight.

I'm way stoked for both the Dec. 13th and Dec. 30th fights. I'm anxious to see Michael Bisping in action again. They have definitely put together an awesome fight card for both dates. Forrest Griffin and Keith Jardine will be fighting on the 30th as well. I think Forrest (another one of my favs!) is an awesome fighter. I've been a fan since his killer 1st fight against Stehpan Bonnar. Did Stephan really get caught using steroids???

I was also impressed with the way he coached on TUF 3. Ken Shamrock didn't seem to put as much heart into it as Tito did. I love Tito Ortiz, and I hope that he wins on the 30th. I can't take anything away from Chuck Liddell though... Tito is gonna have a killer fight on his hands for sure. The way Chuck has dominated the Light-Heavyweight division lately is way impressive.

I haven't heard anything about Matt Hamill since his last fight with Seth Petruzelli during Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3. Did you see it? I really admire Matt and I think in time he's going to be an awesome fighter.

I saw the Franklin/Silva fight... I was totally shocked! I don't think anyone expected that to happen. I don't think I've ever seen Rich Franklin take a beating like that. He just couldn't get out of Silva's Muay Thai Clinch. I've never seen anything like it.

Did anyone watch the lastest season of TUF with the "old" fighters?

Hey fight fans

I love it!
I missed the last 2 big fights but the up and coming cards look great. I can't wait for the Tito-Chuck fight.
I hope Tito can pull it out but I don't think so. I think Chuck's power will be to much for Tito.

I can't wait to Bisbing in the ring again. Hes awesome!

Its interesting cause its the time of the strikers right now in the UFC.
1. Chuck, 2. Silva, 3. George and 4. Tim S.
all strikers & that makes for ghreat & exciting fights!!

Stephan Bonner did test positive for Boldione, a banned substance. He is ineligible to fight until spring of 2007...

It seems to be widely available online. He posted a pretty lengthy apology and information about the substance on his website. He has since tested negative.

Even if he was ignorant in his purchase of the product, I wonder how fans will receive him upon his return.

For those who missed the GSP vs. Matt Hughes rematch, you can watch the entire fight on YouTube.

I have to agree. Chuck has power from both hands and can throw power punches from odd postions. If Tito tries to take him down Chuck will be able to hold his own on the mat as well. That's why I don't think Tito will be able to pull it off, but you never know weirder things have happened.

ah, mixed martial arts. the most pure sport on the planet. two men, locked in mortal combat. i love it, and don't miss a fiht. in canada, we have a new channel called the fight network. they show a lot of older k1, pride, bodog fight, tko, and rumble on the rock.

as for the december fight, i think that tito will take chuck. i didn't say i like tito, just that he will win this time. 2sn round tko.

I'm almost ashamed to say...I too, like UFC

We have some friends who love it as well and we have fight nights on pay-per-view every now and then.

In fact, our friends attended the second Tito/Shamrock fight - got their picture taken and everything. They were like lil kids.

Anyway...I like the mixed martial arts, but get annoyed when they just hug on one another. I know it's wrestling...and domination and whatever...but it's not nearly as fun to watch.

Actually, the refs tend to break up any excess hugging, and the audiences boo.

I doubt any fighter wants to spend his time hugging and holding his opponents arms; it wastes alot of energy, and you don't get points for holding the arms.

Chuck Lidell has an incredible defense against the takedown, I know he was collegiate wrestler. Tito is good, but he is not fighting another Ken Shamrock.

Jeremy Horn took some tremendous shots from the Iceman for almost four rounds. He had to stop when his vision was affected by the punches.

His name is Matt Hamill. We discussed him a bit up there ^^^^^^.
He fought not too long ago, during the final Ortiz vs Shamrock fight.

About Matt Hughes being a Christian...

Yeah. Someone mentioned that during one of his post-fight interviews he mentioned his faith in God, or something like that. They also showed him and his trainers all praying before his fight against GSP. I think it's way awesome how he openly gives glory to God.

GSP is still my favorite, though!

The countdown to Liddell vs Ortiz is killing me!! Is everyone gonna order the fight on PPV?

It'd be cool to watch it with a big group of people, but they never air the fights in any of the sports bar-type places around here. And, since none of my friends watch UFC, I'll be doing it solo. Oh well... I'll watch it with a room full of rabbits if I have to, just as long as I get to see it!

I think it is great that he is a Christian as well. You should check out his website in one of his BLOG entries he mentions the book of Esther. He also has Phillipians 4:13 on his opening page.

To be totally honest I was never a GSP fan until his fight with Penn. I thought his post fight interview was great and I gained a lot of respect for him after I heard it. I wanted Hughes to win thier fight, but I am not all that upset that he lost because he lost to GSP.

I also can't wait for the fight, but I am still not sure whether I am going to order it.

Yes - his website also contains info about this and how Matt became saved

Here is a link Hughes

And here is a blurb from his blog after the fight

Going into the fight I felt very confident. Even up to the point where I lost, I really felt God was going to have me win that fight, but it wasn't His plan. I always pray that God's will is done before a fight and, as long as that's done, I'm happy and I'll definitely fight again. Even with a loss, I can't be anything but thankful for all that God has done in my life.

Oh cool!! I'm glad I found you guys! DH and I are huge UFC fans - we also watch pride and the new IFL stuff. UFC is the best though... it's definitely changed a lot since the days of Tank Abbott, etc. I do kinda miss seeing different styles match up though. Now everyone does MMA and you don't see such huge contrasts. I guess at the time Gracie Ju-Jitsu won out - but now even that can't compete. You have to be able to do it all!

GSP vs Hughes and Silva vs Franklin were both awesome! Could you believe his nose?? Wow! I do think Liddell will take Ortiz out. I can't really ever decide if I like Tito or not. I never like the attitude, but gained more respect for him during the last Ultimate Fighter. He was a great coach. Still was pretty immature after his last fight with Shamrock, though. Plus, even though some of his fights have been exciting, there have been some pretty boring ones too. Of course, Liddell seldom has a boring fight, so I'm sure it'll be great.

I'm glad they brought back the lightweight division too. I like Sherk. Well, it looks like the Miletich boys don't have a hold on all the titles anymore. Only Silvia left - I think he wears that belt to bed!

I'm hoping to see heavy weights Vera( I think thats his last name) and Silvia fight. Vera has had some exciting finishes and seems to be very solid. I think with his speed and striking ability he may have a chance to take Silvias belt but you never know.

IFL looks interesting, with coaches such as Shamrock, Miletich, Newton, Lindland.

We don't get to see to many Pride FC matches on TV

I will probably watch the webcast PPV of UFC 66. Leading up to Lidell-Ortiz is Andre Arlovski, Michael Bisping, Chris Leben, Diego Alvez, Forrest Griffin fighting Keith Jardine (IMO, he beat Stephen Bonner).

On Wed (Dec 13th, from Miramar)--Diego Sanchez vs Joe "diesel" Riggs! Josh Koscheck, Drew Fickett, Karo Parisyan, Shonie Carter and Marcus Davis will also fight.

If Diego wins, he could face GSP next year. Diego's high altitude training gives him an edge (endurance-wise)...

George St-Pierre used his Muay Thai clinching skills to beat Matt Hughes. If I remember correctly, Matt was a Div 1A champ in Iowa?

I am acquainted with one of the K-1 Strikeforce fighters in Northern Cal, he is a loan officer and former IT professional.

To be honest, Pride is my least favorite b/c of the poor video/audio quality, so I personally don't think you're missing too much. Of course, they do have fighters that you'd rarely see otherwise.

This is a quick bio of Matt's collegiate wrestling career.

quote:

Uncertain of what to do upon graduation, both brothers attended Belleville Area College (BAC) for one year. At the conclusion of their freshman year at BAC, wrestling was cut as a varsity sport and, therefore, the twins found themselves continuing their wrestling careers at Lincoln College. Despite different locations the results were the same as Matt earned All-American status on the junior college circuit at both Belleville and Lincoln. Matt placed 5th in the 158-pound class as a freshman and 3rd in the same class a year later, while brother Mark was earning All-American honors of his own finishing 5th at 149. It was after his sophomore year that Matt accepted a scholarship to attend Eastern Illinois University (EIU) in Charleston, IL. Matt's adjustment to the level of Division I athletics did not take long as he earned All-American status by way of his 8th place finish in his first year at EIU. He followed that up by placing 5th at the NCAA DI championships making him four for four. That is, each of the four years he wrestled in college, he earned All-American honors.

quote:

On Wed (Dec 13th, from Miramar)--Diego Sanchez vs Joe "diesel" Riggs! Josh Koscheck, Drew Fickett, Karo Parisyan, Shonie Carter and Marcus Davis will also fight.

Looking forward to the Sanchez/Riggs fight. Not a big Sanchez fan, but I do think he will win. He is a great wrestler.

quote:

I agree! I think Griffin will beat him though.

if you want up to date information on mixed martial arts, i highly recommend mmaweekly.com. the information there is some of the most accurate that you will find. i also enjoy fightopinion.com.

as well, the ufc just bought out the wec and the wfa. those were two smaller organizaitons that were in competition with the ufc. the wec has produced some great fighters, as well as the wfa has quinton jackson, matt lindland, ivan salaverry, and jason miller.

if you want to see fights from outside the ufc, go to youtube.com. check out anderson silva vs ryo chonna, or against tony fryklund. you will see just how good anderson truly is.

Another good website is Sherdog.com.
